Several opinions have been flying around as regards whether
or not the personality of Atiku Abubakar should contest or not. It has even
gotten all high when in a time like this, the people have been seeking for a
rescuer that will bring them out of the abyss just like the Prophet Jeremiah
who was thrown into a dry well and sought God’s help.
Funny enough, some of these opinions have come from well
meaning Nigerians that they will prefer a change in this present day
government. In all fairness, there have been calls as well from some eminent
personalities that the person of Atiku Abubakar should not contest. Everyone
has an entitlement to his or her own opinion.
There was the case of an individual in Edo state who had a
failed career in comedy and still went on to try music which seem to be like
digging water out of the desert to him who also has an opinion. I am not
against someone having an opinion but when your opinion seems to be targeted at
throwing tantrums to people who seem to be doing their job, albeit
destructively, then it has become something else. An Igbo adage says the
handshake which goes beyond the elbow, calls for something else. One wonders
what this man called Maleke Idowu aims at when after denigrating the person of
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar still went on throw mudsling at an organization “ATIKUNATION” that are doing their own job by
supporting their preferred man.
In his own words they failed the country (the musicians)
when they supported the candidacy of past politicians for the plum jobs of the
president, and that now, he is mass producing CD plates to the tune of 60,000
copies to show that his organization is against Atiku’s candidacy for the job of the president. If
you ask of my opinion (as the article is about opinion) I will rather plead
with this failed musician to put in the financial efforts used in producing CDs
of that large number into reviving his dead career.
Talking about experience in economic activities or from the
governance aspect, who else can be paraded if not the enigma, Atiku Abubakar?
It is more noteworthy that we should stop with experimenting and take on
serious things. As a youth (which the musician falls into the category) we
should look for who to show the way, prepare the youths for governance and from
there sail onwards. The President of the United States, despite being in his
70s, has turned the United States economy around and is fit as fiddle.
For those peddling the rumour of corruption against Atiku Abubakar, I am
yet to see anyone who will come forward with an evidence of corrupt charges and
indictment on his personality. I just wish sentiments are pushed aside for the
good of the country.
At a time like this, we should not clamour for someone who
will take six months to appoint ministers and then tag them as “noise makers”.
We should be able to elect a president that will not promise to build sky
scrappers in the sky when in actual fact there is no blueprint foundation for
it in the first place. May be we will have fuel at N40 naira by next year as a
dollar will equal the naira and we will start producing pencils by 2020, but
what I do know is that we should open our eyes this time that the devil we
know, is far better than a repackaged Angel we do not know. It is exactly what
we are experiencing now as a country.
There is a part of humanity in Atiku Abubakar that I so much
admire. It is the fact that when calamities happen in any part of the country,
he is quick to show his sympathy through his twitter handle, this is something
that takes the presidency days to do. His media handlers are not even helping
matters when everyone shows contradictory statements on what they say.
Opinions are the sole rights of the individual spewing it
out, but the opinions should be more girded in its loins with sense and wisdom.
